Dr. Lisa Berzins is a clinical psychologist with expertise in treating addictions, eating disorders, trauma, anxiety, depression, body image issues and difficulties with emotion regulation. Her practice includes adolescents and adults as well as couples and families. Skills that increase life satisfaction, happiness, self-confidence, curiosity and gratitude can be learned. When life doesn’t meet our expectations or painful situations occur, we become self-critical and fight against emotions such as anger, loneliness, fear or shame. It is this lack of acceptance that increases suffering. She knows this from her own experience and offer interventions have helped her as well as others to overcome obstacles and life challenges. Dr. Lisa Berzins is trained In DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), MBSR (Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention), Self-Compassion, and IFS (Internal Family Systems) which are all evidence-based treatments with broad effectiveness. She is able to tailor treatment to the individual’s unique needs and address body, mind and spirit accordingly.
Have you experienced the feeling of knowing what you “should” do but you can’t seem to do it and wonder why you are self-sabotaging? IFS and self-compassion help to identify and heal “parts” that are polarized. This enables your core self to take charge of your internal system rather than being “hijacked” by your emotions. She has experienced the powerful impact of these interventions both personally and professionally.
In addition to her practice, she presents on the following topics:
- Retrain Your Brain Using Mindfulness and Self-Compassion
- Understanding and Treating Addictions
- Eating Disorders: Assessment and Treatment
- Intuitive Eating: Free Yourself From Dieting Forever
- Engaging People with Dementia
- Internal Family Systems
